Glass Hallmark
All of us are striving for a more sustainable future. Throughout Europe, people are stepping up their efforts to reduce their ecological footprint. Their expectations are crystal-clear: businesses should be doing more to help them make more sustainable choices.
The glass packaging industry has long been a trusted partner that helps businesses and private individuals to fulfill these wishes. Glass is recyclable, and it protects the integrity of the product inside. If we are to work together to bring about a more sustainable future, we must remind the world of what it already loves about glass, and of the valuable part it can play in turning this vision of the future into a reality. This is why the Glass Hallmark has been created.
What the Glass Hallmark stands for
The glass hallmark is a movement to help raise awareness among consumers that choosing glass is something they can do, today, to ensure a more sustainable tomorrow.
It is also a trademarked communication tool designed by the industry to promote the “recyclability” and “inertness” qualities of glass as a material. It represents the ability of the container glass on which the mark is put to be recycled and to optimally preserve the content as a result of its inert nature. It can be used on every glass container irrespective of the way in which this glass container was manufactured, unless in a way that prevents the glass container concerned to be recyclable.
The glass hallmark does not express or claim any other product-related characteristic. It is not an official certification stamp. More specifically, the glass hallmark does not constitute any other environmental claim implying in any way that, for example, the glass container concerned contains a minimum percentage of recycled glass or that it is effectively recycled at the end of its life.
