From 5th to 8th May, Vetropack will present its complete portfolio of safe and sustainable packaging solutions for food and beverages at Tuttofood in Milan.
Vetropack customers enjoy the benefits of the smart factory: in Boffalora sopra Ticino, Vetropack opened a highly modern, resource-efficient production plant with a fully automated warehouse in 2023.

“Tuttofood is one of the most important international trade fairs for agri-food in Italy,” explains Riccardo Gobbis, who took over as head of Vetropack Italia on 1st April. “In partnership with our customers we are constantly looking for innovative glass packaging solutions with tangible benefits for the environment and consumers.” Sustainable solutions include the thermally tempered lightweight glass bottle, which was introduced in Austria in 2024 as a standard reusable solution for the beer market. With up to 30 percent less weight and significantly less abrasion compared to a conventional reusable bottle, the product leads to material savings but also to lower CO2 emissions during transport, making it one of the most sustainable reusable solutions on the market. In addition to the lightweight glass bottle, Vetropack will also present a portfolio of around 2,500 standard and customised glass packaging designs at Tuttofood, for example, for jam, spreads, preserves and sauces.

Vetropack provides end-to-end support for customers, from the initial packaging idea to the final product. Many years of design expertise and comprehensive know-how provide customers with tailored solutions that optimally combine aesthetic, functional, and ecological requirements – including customised glass packaging on request. Vetropack further supports customers in optimising their supply chain, for example in terms of CO2 emissions or recyclability, helping to reduce resource consumption and comply with European regulations such as the PPWR without compromising product protection.

Smart factory in Boffalora sopra Ticino

Vetropack's site in Boffalora sopra Ticino demonstrates how the company puts its high-quality standards and sustainability into practise. Here, the glass manufacturer exploits the advantages of the smart factory: customers benefit from short lead times, enhanced flexibility, and full process transparency. Fully automated production processes and digital quality assurance enable maximum precision and efficiency – even for small batches. With eight production lines, Vetropack has increased its production capacity by up to 70 per cent compared to the old plant, while at the same time making production significantly more resource-efficient and sustainable. These improvements enable Vetropack to respond quickly to dynamic market conditions and and make the company more competitive on the market.

All processes in the fully automated warehouse are also connected digitally and designed for maximum efficiency. “We tried to optimise movements while minimising losses in the value flow. At the same time, precise data collection allows us to control and monitor processes with a high degree of accuracy,” explains Gobbis. In addition, the entire vehicle fleet has been equipped with advanced, low-consumption lithium batteries that shorten charging times and improve energy efficiency. As one of the group's most modern and sustainable sites, Boffalora sopra Ticino sets an example for Vetropack's future-oriented production strategy.
